Fashion Design

Fashion Design

Fashion design starts with a moment, an inspiration, a feeling, it's very personal because a fashion design is the start of the artwork of a designer. Every stroke of the pencil gives the emotion of the artist on paper. A designer can use a mood board or just walk around a city to get inspiration.

Every collection will have a new feeling, a new inspiration, something the designer wants to highlight. It can be something personal or elements from traveling around the world. Some designers get inspired by art or nature and maybe even elements from architecture. For me classical music opens the mind to be creative.

While the pencil flows the signature model of the designer shapes the drawing. By sketching more ideas and details come into the drawing. The drawing starts basic and layers up to something special, a design that just breaths the designers creative mind.

When designing for someone in person, I imagine how the personality of the person is, how they would wear the dress and how they would use the clothing. This all comes together in the design, sometimes it's more practical and sometimes it's more fashionable and artistic. It all depends on what people need. Do they want an evening dress, a bridal dress or something more casual for every day. Everything is possible with some imagination.

While sketching with pencil is still a nice way to sketch things out, sometimes new methods can be used to add some color or show it to customers how it could be. That's where new technology steps in to support the designer.
