From pattern to cutting process

From pattern to cutting process

When the design is chosen and the measurements are noted down the production starts with the patterns of the clothing. There are different options to make patterns, people can use paper and pen to shape the clothing and create the perfect fit or companies can use a system to make patterns on a computer. Both ways are still used by different people and companies. While the paper patterns have their authentic charm a computer program is easy to make little changes on patterns and create different sizes. There are already so many pattern making programs with basic patterns and they are easy to use.

Every brand has their own patterns and fit, some like a loose fit or like certain details while others like to have certain lines and details in the fit. That's how brands stand out and have their own signature fit and style.

After the patterns are made the production starts with cutting the fabric, they can use a laser cut or cut it by hand. It all depends on quantity and difficulty of the fabric. Some fabrics move so much while cutting that they need some extra handling. And other fabrics have some special print so people need to check if the process runs smoothly and if the pattern is nicely placed on the printed fabric.

While this production processes are already used for so many years, new innovation is stepping in but I will discuss this later on in the creative inspirational lab because I choose to start first with the authentic way of making clothes.
